NBCC Coup for 2024. . .

Nick Chiles, Who Has Written Books For T.D. Jakes, Jamie Foxx, Bobby Brown, Al Sharpton, Kirk Franklin . . . On Board

Book Lover:

Nick Chiles has some stories to tell because he has written the stories of some of the biggest personalities in Black culture. That he will be with us to share his amazing talent at crafting these brilliant stories–and some juicy stuff that didn’t make the books–is another coup for the 20th National Book Club Conference, August 2-4 at the Atlanta Westin Buckhead.

Over the course of his 36-year career, Nick has distinguished himself as one of the nation’s foremost chroniclers of Black life, culture, and celebrity—both as a bestselling author and an award-winning journalist.

He is the author or co-author of 21 books, including four New York Times bestsellers he wrote with iconic pastor, humanitarian, and producer Bishop T.D. Jakes (Disruptive Thinking: A Daring Strategy to Change How He Live, Lead, and Love; Faith Words-Hachette), R&B icon Bobby Brown (Every Little Step, Dey St.-HarperCollins), civil rights leader Al Sharpton (The Rejected Stone, Cash Money Content), and gospel legend Kirk Franklin (The Blueprint, Gotham Books-Penguin), among others.

Chiles is the co-author with Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx of the parenting memoir Act Like You Got Some Sense: And Other Things My Daughters Taught Me (Grand Central Publishing) and the co-author with former NBA star Mahmoud Abdul Rauf of the memoir In the Blink of An Eye (Kaepernick Publishing).

He is the co-author with Atlanta attorney Robbin Shipp of Justice While Black: Helping African-American Families Navigate and Survive the Criminal Justice System (Bolden-Agate Publishing), which was a finalist for a 2015 NAACP Image Award.

Chiles served as a newspaper reporter (mostly covering education), magazine writer, and magazine and website editor-in-chief during more than three decades in journalism, winning nearly 20 major awards—including a 1992 Pulitzer Prize as part of a New York Newsday team.

He currently teaches journalism at the University of Georgia. Chiles has a B.A. from Yale and an MFA from the University of Georgia. He lives in Athens, Georgia, with his wife Sadiqa Chiles. To learn more about Nick, please click here.

he Other Black Girl Author, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Coming to Hulu Now & 2024 NBCC

Book Lover:

It is a coup to announce that featured at the 2024 National Book Club Conference, our milestone 20th anniversary of Literary Bliss, August 2-4 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta, will be Zakiya Dalila Harris, author of the New York Times best-selling novel, The Other Black Girl.

It is appropriate that I make this announcement today, as the television series based on The Other Black Girl premiers tonight on the streaming network Hulu.

This is among the hottest books in the nation (and so is her must-watch show), so Zakiya’s commitment to joining us is special.

And she is just the beginning of a series of Featured Author announcements that will help round the 20th NBCC into our most amazing conference ever. . . which is saying a lot. Registration is open and we are filling up at a record pace, so please lock in your position with at least a $100 deposit now by clicking here.

As for The Other Black Girl, it tells the funny, emotional and familiar story of a Black woman, Nella, being the only Black person working in an office. . . until a Black woman is hired, exciting Nella, who now has someone she can relate to. But then things happen that grabs and holds your attention through the completion of the enthralling book.

The story is based on real life dynamics Zakiya endured working as the only Black person at a New York publishing house.

The magazine Vulture said of The Other Black Girl: “Poignant, daring and darkly funny. The Other Black Girl will have you stressed and exhilarated in equal measure through the very last twist. . . The perfect fead for anyone who has ever felt manipulated, threatened or overlooked in the workplace.”

Read more about Zakiya by clicking here.

This is how we roll, with the hottest and most dynamic authors around. Look out for more fantastic additions in coming weeks. In the meantime, check out The Other Black Girl on Hulu and add the book to your reading collection.

Peace and blessings,
