eBook Piracy is on the rise in 2019 #3chicksandsomebooks

Ebook piracy is increasing every single year. $300 million was lost in author income due to pirated book sales in the United States last year. This figure fluctuates year to year, in 2017 Nielsen consumer survey covering ebook piracy found $315 million in US book sales was lost annually due to piracy. Piracy is not strictly  a US problem, the Egyptian Publishers Union found last year that piracy cost Egypt’s publishers $16.8 million annually, while the UK’s Intellectual Property Office found in 2017 that 17% of all ebooks consumed that year, 4 million units in total, were pirated.

How’s your reading weekend coming along? #3chickandsomebooks

National Book Club Conference via @curtisbunn #BookNews #Event Update | Atlanta 2019 #3chicksandsomebooks

Where Readers And Authors Come Together…And Depart Friends.
Marissa Alexander
Zane Loses Her Mother, Will Skip 2019 NBCC
Book Lover:
Sad news: Zane, the prolific author and publisher, has bowed out of the 2019 National Book Club Conference after the death of her mother.
We send prayers to her, sister Charmaine Parker, an author and fantastic editor, and their family in this time of grief and sorrow.
In light of Zane’s absence, we have a schedule adjustment that will be repeated at the NBCC: Marissa Alexander will move into the 1:30 p.m. time slot in the Windsor Ballroom on Friday afternoon.
Marissa, you may remember, was forced into the public’s eye when, in 2010, she was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for firing a warning shot to fend off her estranged husband from attacking her. In 2012, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Contrast her case to George Zimmerman, who was not convicted in the murder of Trayvon Martin. Alexander and Zimmerman used the same Florida Stand Your Grown law as a defense. Alexander, who hurt no one, got 20 years. Zimmerman killed an unarmed teenager and got off.
Released in 2017, Marissa is an advocate for justice and is working on a memoir that will tell her dramatic, controversial story that is laced with racial and sex biases. She will share some of the behind-the-scenes drama she endured.
Please read below about other important stuff in preparation for our weekend of Literary Bliss.
Peace and blessings,
CURTIS
Curtis Bunn, NBCC founder

Remember: Pre-register for the conference on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. if you are in Atlanta. It’s better to complete then to lessen the lines on Friday morning, when registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

Attire: Comfortable clothes and shoes for the daily activities. Semi-formal attire for the Featured Authors Red Carpet event, awards dinner and post-dinner dessert party.

Do: Bring your checkbook. As an attendee, you can register for the 2020 NBCC at our largest discount of $225 per person at the conference. Do take advantage of that opportunity as soon as you can, as we can only accept the first 50.

Goal: Please challenge yourself to sit in on at least part of a minimum of six authors you do not know or unfamiliar with. It will enhance your experience for sure. . . and they would greatly appreciate your support.

Raffles: We will raffle books throughout the weekend at the general sessions in the Windsor Ballroom. AND, we will raffle complimentary registration for the 2020 NBCC. Must be present at time of drawing to win.

T-Shirts: By my count, we have two entries into the T-Shirt of the Year Contest: Mind and Soul Alliance and The Lovely Ladies of Literature Book Club. We will vote on them on Friday and announce the winner at the dinner on Saturday night. Also, many of you have custom book club t-shirts. Saturday is the day to wear them.

Important: We are nothing without our health. The Black Women’s Health Imperative and Jefferson Hospital of Philadelphia sponsors the must-attend panel, Conversation of Black Women’s Health on Friday at 11:45 a.m. It will enlighten you on so many vital elements

Do: Visit as ALL of our authors and exhibitors who will have tables set up outside the Windsor Ballroom. Lots of talent will be on display.

Remember: We added last week wonderful author Ebony Roberts, author of the hot new memoir, The Love Prison Man and Unmade, who will have her “book club meeting” at 2:40 p.m. on Friday. Announcements will be made, as she is not listed in the official program. AND we will have the updated schedule posted in our high-traffic area.
Will share MORE information about the NBCC next week.
Peace and blessings,
CURTIS

Everybody is so sensitive these days. I can’t look at a woman and admire her without some BS about misconduct. Give me a f*ing break.
She works for me and I pay her salary.

Persuade Me by Reana Malori

~ Sometimes good and evil must coexist to bring about the reckoning. ~

Ebony – I’ve never begged for anything. Until the day I begged him to save my life.

Fear was not a word I used. Failure had never been an option. Even as life threw me curveballs on a regular basis, I powered through. My job as a police officer drove me to do better, be better than anyone else, and to protect those who needed my help. My position as President of the Fairfax Chapter of Lady Guardians instilled a sense of sisterhood and passion for my community. I’m proud of the person I’ve become and have no regrets about the life I’ve lived. Well, except one–and it happens to be the man hovering over my body as I bleed out on my front lawn.

Cole – Life on the other side wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, but my forgiveness will be found in the unlikeliest of places.

The day I came home to find my beautiful neighbor on the verge of death, my world shifted. She’d seen me when all I wanted to do was hide, not allowing me to wallow in my guilt and memories. The things I’d seen in combat, scarred me for life, changing me into someone I hardly recognized. But it didn’t matter to her. Now someone had hurt her. The woman I desired from afar, even as I knew it was best that I stayed on my side of the street. I was no good for her. For anyone. But someone had tried to harm her, and that just wouldn’t do at all.
