But back to Ms. Brown. As an author, attorney and advocate, Cupcake has spoken all over America and Europe, using her years of negative experiences, coupled with positives, to share with others how the hopes and dreams of anyone really could come true, no matter how impossible it may seem.

She has received the University of San Francisco School of Law’s Judge Harold J. Haley Award for Exceptional Distinction in Scholarship, Character and Activities; San Diego State’s Donal Leiffer Outstanding Alumni Award for Distinguished Service; Suze Orman’s Books for a Better Life Award; and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s Literary Award for Nonfiction.

A former lecturer at San Diego State, where she taught classes on youth and gangs, she is working on a sequel to A Piece of Cake and writing the script for the film version of her story.
